Broken Wings

This afternoon is one of those beautiful Spring afternoons, where it's hard to go back to your desk after work. But don't get me wrong, it's nice to have some time to enjoy the sunshine outside. And I really enjoy that hour a day to have a little peaceful tranquilty along the water. It's days like today that make freezing my ass out here in the cold and the snow worth it.

Anyway today when I was at lunch I walked along the water to see the birds with the broken wing. I seem to have found the spot where they spend most of their time, I never really walked over there until I started watching the swans. It's funny now I go to look for them over there for them instead. There was only one there today, the one with arm with one arm that really drags on the ground. Last week one day he actually had trapped himself inside one of the gated tennis courts. For some reason I feel so bad for him, I know there probably are other people on the campus better equipped to help him then me. And I'm sure I'm not the only one aware of him, after all they do have a Marine Science program. Maybe I just feel like there's got to be something more I can do to help the poor little guy. It's kinda sad he keeps trying to fly, he keeps trying to flap that broken wing. For some reason, there's something about him struggling that I relate to. But I guess we can all relate that, because after all what adult hasn't struggled with something at some point in their life. Either a relationship, work, a friendship, a family member, yadda yadda yadda. And sometimes, we are there flapping our little wings just like that little bird. I respect that little bird because no matter what he keeps trying, even though he's probably damaging his wings more. Because at the end of the day he still believes he will fly, and who knows maybe he will. After all sometimes the things that we think are least likely to happen are exactly what happens. Sometimes all we need, is like the little bird, a little belief in ourselves and that we can win in the end.
